A Skowhegan man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection with the February fatal shooting of a man on Flagg Street in Augusta, police said.

Edward Longley, 30, is accused of shooting and killing Billyjack Curtis, 51, on Feb. 2, Shannon Moss, the public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release. A second victim, Sherry Gilley, 40, of Brunswick, was injured in the shooting and is recovering, Moss said.

Moss said Longley was charged with murder and elevated aggravated assault in connection with the incident. He is being held at the Somerset County Jail without bail.

Curtis was found dead shortly after 11 p.m. Feb. 2 by Augusta police, who were called to the scene of 8-10 Flagg St., a four-unit apartment building near downtown Augusta.

The investigation was led by Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – Central. State police made the arrest.
