Wayne Richard Graffam
KEELING, Va. – Wayne Richard Graffam, 76, passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2026, in Keeling, Va. Born on June 4, 1949, in Maine, Wayne lived a life filled with dedication to his family, his work, and his many passions.
Wayne grew up on the family farm in Bridgton, Maine, where he developed a strong work ethic and a love for hands-on projects. He graduated from Bridgton High School in 1967 and went on to attend Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute. His early career began at the Red and White grocery store in the meat department, where a friendship with Walter McKeen blossomed into a love story with his future wife, Kathy.
In 1969, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Gunner’s Mate aboard the USS Richard L. Page until 1972. His time in the Navy left a lasting impression on him and shaped his future endeavors. After completing his service, he returned home to marry Kathy, beginning a partnership that spanned nearly 53 years.
Wayne’s professional life was as varied as it was fulfilling. After returning from the Navy, he worked at a grocery store before transitioning to boat building at Sabre Yachts and later Bath Iron Works. His knowledge from his Naval Service proved invaluable in these roles. Later in life, he found his true calling as a school bus driver, a role he embraced wholeheartedly until his retirement.
Wayne was a self-proclaimed “Jack of all trades” who loved working with his hands. Whether tinkering in his garage or workshop, specializing in cars and woodworking, or passing along these skills to his children and grandchildren, Wayne found joy in creating and fixing things. Summers spent at their camp on Bear Pond in Maine were among his happiest times, providing cherished opportunities to be with family. In later years, he discovered a talent for cooking and delighted in experimenting with spicy and elaborate recipes—much to Kathy’s chagrin—and even took up winemaking.
Above all else, Wayne treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy Graffam; their children Rebecca Bolduc (married to Jeffrey Bolduc) and Daniel Graffam; and three grandchildren, Matthew Bolduc, Gregory Bolduc (and his wife Caitlyn), and an eagerly anticipated great-granddaughter expected this month. He is also survived by his sisters Valerie Moody, Vicki Dyer, and Brenda Robinson along with their husbands; sister-in-law Nancy Harriman; and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents Richard and Jeanette Graffam; grandparents; and Kathy’s parents Walter and Eleanor McKeen.
Wayne’s life was defined by hard work, love for his family, and an unyielding curiosity that kept him constantly engaged in new projects. His dogs brought him great joy throughout his life, as did the time spent with those he held dear. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Wayne’s remarkable life.
