Whether you’re setting up a new home or redecorating, resale and antique shops are great places to find items to furnish your home. Here are some of the stores around the region where your next treasured item can be found.

Friends Consignment & More

10 Railroad Square, Waterville

At Friends Consignment & More, shoppers can choose from a variety of home décor, including wall art, baskets, figurines, primitive décor, vintage décor, kitchenware and candles. They can also find lamps, table runners, doilies, clothing, jewelry (costume and higher-quality) and an occasional piece of furniture.

Heidi Mooney, owner of Friends Consignment & More, said customers can find unique items at resale shops that aren’t available at big-box stores.

“Many people also find missing pieces from a collection,” she explained. “A favorite of customers currently are Longaberger baskets and Tupperware,” Mooney said.

According to Mooney, about 95% of the items in her shop are on consignment from more than 500 active accounts, offering local customers the opportunity to sell their own items for cash or credit toward future purchases. Find us on Facebook

Owner Dan Poulin said the two most common reasons people look for older furniture are because it is made from real wood and it lasts a long time.

“A lot of the newer furniture is made from fiberboard,” said Poulin. “It lasts 10 to 15 years and then it falls apart.”

In addition to the shop on Court Street, Poulin owns a warehouse full of used and antique items just around the corner at 110 Turner St. The warehouse is open to the public every Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All merchandise inside the warehouse is currently 50% off, Poulin said. orphananniesme.com
