Francesco Lapenna made 37 saves as the Trois-Rivières Lions beat the Maine Mariners for the second time in three nights, earning a 2-1 ECHL victory Friday in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
The Lions opened the scoring on a goal by Jake Gravelle late in the first period, then made it 2-0 when Anthony Beauregard netted an unassisted goal late in the second.
The Mariners nearly cut into the deficit with 6.2 seconds left in the second, but a goal by Xander Lamppa was overturned because of goalie interference.
Maine finally broke through with 1:59 remaining on a goal by Antonio Venuto after pulling goalie Luke Cavallin for an extra attacker, but the Lions held on to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The Mariners have already clinched a playoff berth.
