Angela Marie Hibbard
ELLSWORTH – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved special needs daughter, Angela Marie Hibbard. Angie succumbed to complications of Rett Syndrome on March 13, 2026. Angie was born on Aug. 10, 1987 to Chet Debbie Hibbard. She spent the first eight years of her life in Cornish, Maine, the next 12 years in Bingham, and the last 18 years at the Birchwood Living Center in Ellsworth.
Angie’s life started normally for the first 6-8 months, then developmental issues started to be noticed and became more profound over time It wasn’t until around the age of 5 that we received the Rett Syndrome diagnosis from the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Md. Not a lot was known about it at the time, so it has been a lifelong learning process for all of us. We found out that Rett Syndrome is the result of a gene mutation that affects brain and nervous system development. In Angie’s case, her developmental age never exceeded 10-12 months.
Over her lifetime Angie showed a strong connection to dogs and horses, especially the therapy horses that she enjoyed riding. She also enjoyed anything to do with water, whether it was “helping” with the dishes, splashing in the bathtub, or swimming.
We would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, therapists, case managers, social workers, teachers, teachers’ aides, CNAs, friends, family, and neighbors who helped in any way in caring for Angie. There are just too many to name. Many have become lifelong family friends. We find comfort in knowing that Angie is now with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and that she now has a new mind, spirit, and body that functions perfectly as promised in Scripture.
We would especially want to thank all the staff, past and present, at the Birchwood Living Center in Ellsworth for providing a caring, safe, and active home for Angie these past 18 years. It has certainly been a good, supportive place for Angie to live.
Angie was predeceased by her grandparents, Alfred and Jean George of West Warwick, R.Ī., Derrill and Ruth Hibbard of Madison; and her uncle, Jim Hibbard of Bingham.
She is survived by her parents; and her big sister, Jessica, her husband, Trevor, and their son, Dylan. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles; and cousins.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, May 16, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Moscow.
