John Holobetz, Isaac Coffey and Erik Rivera combined on a four-hitter and the Portland Sea Dogs earned their first win of the Eastern League season with a 1-0 victory Saturday against the Somerset Patriots in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
The Sea Dogs scored the game’s only run in the top of the third inning. Melvin Alcantara led off with an infield single, then was forced out on a grounder by Tyler McDonough. McDonough stole second, went to third on single by Nate Baez and raced home on a groundout by Ronald Rosario.
Holobetz pitched the first five innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three. Coffey and Rivera both hurled two innings and gave up one hit. Rivera struck out three and worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to earn a save.
The teams finish their opening series Sunday, and then the Sea Dogs host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in their home opener Tuesday.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
