Have Americans had enough yet?

Several years ago, I submitted a letter suggesting that America needs to wake up.

This administration is successfully dismantling all of the progress that has been made in health care, infrastructure, freedoms, education, our status in the world order and the rule of law. We have a leader who refuses to follow the tenets of our Constitution; denigrates and seeks revenge on anyone who disagrees or refuses to sing him praise; and has set a terrible example for anyone wishing to get involved in service or public policy.

We have such a divided and divisive government that little if anything is getting done. It is unfortunate that our divided country is so dysfunctional that the word compromise has become nonexistent. We need governments (state, local and federal) that seek to find ways of compromising  so that everyone can share some winning.

We need leaders who are not afraid to stand up to tyranny and demand that we follow the rule of law. We need to elect government officials who are resolute in their desire and demonstrated actions that advance a country that is steeped in tradition, progress and improving the lives of all its residents and citizens.

I certainly hope that our democracy will survive this continued assault. I will look forward to the day when we support one another; find innovative ways of advancing the well-being of everyone who resides here; and can return our focus and determination to the betterment of the world.
