By now I am sure that most readers will have heard about President Trump’s profanity-laced Easter message. Clearly, this demonstrates not just a problem with character but a problem of judgment. Trump is making threats to bomb bridges and power plants. These are not in service to the destruction of a military, these are attacks on a civilian population. These are threats and attacks against a people and nation that pose no threat to the U.S. or its allies.
To support such threats is wrong. It is imperative that Congress say “no” to such illegal, immoral behavior. Treating these behaviors, these profanity laced threats, as “normal” is wrong and damages the U.S. deeply in many ways.
It is past time to end this untenable, illegal and immoral situation. Pope Leo has condemned such violent threats and acts.
Congress needs to do its job and require congressional authorization for this terrible war of aggression that was unprovoked and, as Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated, was an act of following Netanyahu’s lead. Trump should be following Congress’ lead in issues of war, not that of a leader indicted by the International Criminal Court.
Giving Trump the political and fiscal means to continue and further this disastrous behavior is wrong and very bad for our country, state and world. The people of Maine and the U.S. are strongly opposed to this action and behavior.
