More than 30 pigs killed in Newburgh barn fire
The farm owner says he believes heat lamps caused he blaze.
NEWBURGH — A farmer in central Maine has lost more than 30 pigs in a barn fire.
Fire officials say two barns went up in flames around noon Saturday at a farm in Newburgh. Fire Chief Glen Williamson said when crews arrived, the farm owner was in the barn trying to get his pigs to safety.
The farm owner told WABI-TV he was able to save some of the pigs, but that at least 30 died. He said he assumes that heat lamps he was using to warm some baby pigs might have had something to do with the explosion he heard and the subsequent fire.
