A 26-year-old woman from Sabbatus was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Durham early Monday morning, police said.
Rebecca L. Brown was a passenger in the backseat of a 2003 Toyota Corolla when it crashed on Shiloh Road near Deervale Road about 1 a.m., according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say the vehicle, which is registered to 25-year-old Andrew J. Smith, of Lisbon, was traveling toward Lisbon when it went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, snapping it, and then struck a large rock before coming to rest in a field near the intersection of Shiloh and Deervale roads.
Brown was not wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
The road was closed while police investigated the crash and cleaned up the scene.
