AUGUSTA — The Children’s Center: Early Intervention and Family Support will hold its 12th annual Chili Chowder Challenge from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Augusta State Armory on Western Avenue.

The event features 15 local restaurants and caterers competing for the title of Best Chowder or Best Chili. Additional categories include Hottest Chili, Most Original Chowder, Most Original Chili, Best Display and Most Creative Name.

Participating restaurants are Al’s Pizza, Augusta House of Pancakes, Capitol Grill, Club Calumet, Cohen on the Meadows, Damon’s, Ground Round Sports Grille, Hi-Hat Pancake House, The Liberal Cup, Lisa’s Restaurant & Lounge, Red Barn, Red Robin, Maple Hill Farm Inn & Conference Center, Senator Inn and Wings Hill Inn.

Children’s activities include donut decorating, story time and more. Sam Shain and Family will provide music.

There will be a silent auction from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a live auction hosted by humorist Gary Crocker from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Herb Bunker will be master of ceremonies.

There will be hot dogs, chips, drinks and ice cream for sale.
