ORONO — The University of Maine men’s hockey team went 0 for 9 on the power play and was shutout, losing the St. Lawrence University 5-0 Friday night at Alfond Arena.

St. Lawrence’s took a 1-0 lead at 7 minutes, 48 seconds of the first period when Riley Austin scored with an assists from Greg Carey.

The Saints pushed their lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals in the second period. Chris Martin made it 2-0 with a power-play goal 1:08 into the period and Patrick Doherty followed with a short-handed goal 10:13 into the period.

Gunnar Hughes and Justin Baker added goals in the third period for St. Lawrence. Kyle Flanagan had three assists for the Saints, while George Hughes, Carey, Baker and Pat Raley each had an assist.

Dan Sullivan stooped 17 shots for Maine, before being lifted from the game for Matt Morris, who stopped one shot in just over 12 minutes of action. Matt Weninger had 30 saves for St. Lawrence.

Maine falls to 1-3-0, while St. Lawrence improves to 2-1-0. The teams play again at 7 p.m. tonight.
