SACO — Thornton Academy convincingly marched to the Western Class A championship game with a 49-14 romp over Scarborough in a semifinal game Saturday afternoon at Dr. Paul S. Hill Jr. Stadium.

Second-seeded Thornton (9-1) will play at No. 1 Cheverus (10-0) next Saturday. The Trojans’ only loss came to the Stags on Oct. 13, 28-14.

On Saturday, Thornton took a 42-7 halftime lead.

On the Trojans’ first play, quarterback Eric Christensen found Dylan Morton alone for a 40-yard touchdown pass.

Scarborough responded immediately, with quarterback Dylan Russo connecting with Merrick Madden for an 80-yard score, tying the game 7-7.

But it was all Thornton from there. The Trojans scored every time they had the ball in the first half, outgaining the Red Storm 270-168.

Thornton scored on the opening drive of the second half for a 49-7 lead.
