SKOWHEGAN — An 84-year-old man was found alive Tuesday afternoon more than 30 hours after he was reported missing from his Middle Road home.
Charles F. Carney, who police say has early stages of dementia, was last seen about 10:20 a.m. Monday, said Deputy Police Chief Dale Lancaster.
Carney was found in a wooded area off Middle Road about 150 yards from his home by game wardens Tuesday, Maine Warden Service Lt. Kevin Adam said.
“As we were starting to get some resources in there, one of the game wardens doing a hasty search found him lying in there,” Adam said. “He’s not in good shape, but he’s still alive. I think he’d been lying there since yesterday.”
He was taken by ambulance to nearby Redington-Fairview General Hospital.
Lancaster said Carney was reported missing by his daughter, Lindsay Sadler, who lives with her father at 8 Middle Road, also known as Route 104, which connects Skowhegan and Fairfield.
A tracking dog from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department was unable to determine Carney’s direction of travel, Lancaster said. The dog was brought in because Carney’s daughter did not see him leave, Lancaster said
Lancaster said an EMS ambulance from the hospital had been sent to the home earlier in the day Monday in response to a report that Carney had fallen. Carney was checked out by ambulance personnel and was said to be fine, Lancaster said.
