RICHMOND — Selectmen meet tonight to adopt new policies and discuss installing lighting at Lane Field.

Policies up for discussion and potential adoption tonight include those guiding town officials on electronic communications, social media and personnel. Also, selectmen are scheduled to consider a policy change that would allow a designated municipal officer to review, approve and sign the municipal warrants for paying state fees and the bi-weekly town payroll.

Selectmen, who meet tonight at 6 in the conference room at the Town Office, are also scheduled to:

* discuss lights at town-owned ballfield Lane Field;

* hear a presentation from an auditor;

* set a date to review an automobile recycling business and junkyard application from David Harris;

* discuss a grant to help buy a new public works truck;

* discuss carrying over $9,000 from the solid waste account;

* consider allowing the use of Lane Field for a fall baseball tournament;

* consider signing the Sagadahoc County tax assessment;

* consider setting the tax commitment;

* meet in a closed-door session to discuss confidential records regarding trust funds.

State sues feds for Medicaid waiver sloth

AUGUSTA — The state of Maine is suing the federal government for failing to act on its waiver request, filed Aug. 1, seeking to eliminate Medicaid coverage for more than 20,000 residents.

The state, which sued Tuesday in federal court, had warned that it needed a quick answer, but the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services told the state Friday that more time was needed to review the state’s waiver request.

Gov. Paul LePage contends Medicaid, which serves 361,000 Maine residents, has grown faster than the state’s ability to fund it., and the Republican-controlled Maine Legislature reduced coverage.

Lawmakers eliminated coverage for parents with incomes between 100 percent and 133 percent of the federal poverty level, along with 19- and 20-year-olds, and seniors and disabled people in the Medicare Savings Program.
