AUGUSTA — A family event, Rachel’s Run and Kids’ Fun, will take place Sept. 29 in Capitol Park.
Activities will begin with a 5k run and walk along the Kennebec River Rail Trail from Augusta to Hallowell and back. There will be a children’s obstacle course, nature-related games, refreshments, prizes, and more. Hannah Pingree, former Speaker of the House and an advocate for a toxic-free Maine, will lead a stroller brigade for mothers. Money raised will be used to reduce harmful toxic pollution in Maine.
This event celebrates the publication of Rachel Carson’s book, “Silent Spring,” 50 years ago. The book first publicized the effects of dangerous chemicals on the environment, especially on birds.
