Gov. Paul LePage recently mailed a cartoon to Maine high school principals telling them that it’s time for them to “put students first.” Presumably, someone told the governor that principals don’t do that already. Really?
This is only the latest in the governor’s attacks on Maine education. He has said colleges “look down upon” our students (no evidence) and tried to divert education dollars to private schools.
LePage says he really cares about students, but then reduces state funding to public schools.
We should be concerned that, in the next two years, we are likely to see more of the same or worse. That’s one reason the Nov. 6 election is especially important. If the governor has majority support for his ideas in the next Legislature, Maine education could very well become as bad as he thinks it is.
