Chris Martinez, animal control officer for Waterville, Sidney, Mt. Vernon, Chelsea, Hallowell and Whitefield, says he is out on patrol this month, checking for dog licenses.
Jan. 31 was the last day for registering dogs, and anyone in violation will have to pay a $25 late fee, in addition to a $6 license for an animal that is fixed or $12 for an animal not fixed.
The law requires dogs to be licensed and wear tags certifying they have had rabies shots, Martinez said Friday.
