WILTON — A Jay man was killed when he crashed the pickup truck he was driving into a telephone pole off Route 156 early Saturday morning, police said.

David Goulette, 44, was driving on Route 156 headed south toward Chesterville when the crash happened to the south of where U.S. Route 2 divides the highway, according to a Wilton Police Department news release.

The 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche that Goulette was driving veered off the road and hit a pile of rocks, sending the truck flying into a telephone pole and ejecting him, according to police.

Police arrived shortly after the crash was reported Saturday about 12:19 a.m. Goulette was declared dead at the scene.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, which Wilton police Sgt. Richard H. Billian Jr. continued to investigate Saturday. Billian did not return a message seeking further details about the crash.

Jay Police Department, Wilton Fire Department, NorthStar Ambulance and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene of the crash.
