WATERVILLE — Ray Zeek hit a two-run triple to left field in the top of the sixth inning as the Colby College baseball team beat Thomas 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday.
The Mules completed the sweep with an 8-2 win in the nightcap.
In the first game, Zeek had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for Colby (15-14). Abhi Chandel pitched five innings of relief, allowing no earned run, one walk and striking out one to pick up his first win of the season.
Ethan Hurley had three hits and an RBI for Thomas (24-15).
In Game 2, the Mules put the game away with five runs in the top of the eight. Cony High School graduate Luke Duncklee and Devlin McConnell each had two-run singles in the inning, while Brandon Nieuw had an RBI single.
Tom Cameron had a double and an RBI for Thomas.
Bates 8-10, UM-Farmington 1-0: The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Game 1 and cruised to a doubleheader sweep of the Beavers in Farmington.
In the first game, Mike Ciummei had three singles, a double and an RBI for Bates (18-15). Ryan Curit was 4 for 4 with an RBI.
Lawrence High School graduate Matt Woodbury had two singles and an RBI for UMF (8-28).
In the second game, Kevin Davis hit a grand slam as the Bobcats scored nine times in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the win.
Brett Wallingford had two singles for UMF.
Also Tuesday: Skowhegan Area High School graduate Becca McCarty pitched three innings and won her 13th game of the season as the Husson University softball team defeated Lyndon State College 10-2 in a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal in Bangor. McCarty allowed unearned run on two hits, while striking out two for Husson, the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Also for Husson, Maranacook graduate Heidi Shaw had an RBI double. …
