BANGOR — Messalonskee rallied from a seven-run deficit in the sixth inning to stun Bangor 8-7 in a wild Ken-nebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game Tuesday.
Bangor (2-1) led 7-0 after four innings, and the score stayed that way until the top of the sixth. Messalonskee (3-0) sent 13 batters to the plate in that inning, and scored seven runs to tie the game.
In the top of the seventh, the Eagles had nobody on with two out, but loaded the bases on a walk and two singles. Nikki Collier then fouled off two 3-2 pitches before taking ball four to force in the go-ahead run.
Jordan Roy, Bri Garland, and Phoebe Pelletier each singled twice for Messalonskee. Roy pitched the final two innings to earn the win.
Kristen Hanigan and Carly Cosgrove each had two hits for the Rams.
Erskine 2, Oxford Hills 1: Allison Gauvin had an RBI single and Alyssa Gartley pitched a complete game to lead the Eagles in South Paris.
Erskine (3-0) scored both its runs in the top of the first. Meryl Bond led off the game with a single and then stole second and third. She later came home on a fielder’s choice from Mikhaela Helm. Oxford Hills, which out-hit Erskine 6-3, dropped to 1-1.
Baseball
Oxford Hills 10, Erskine 9 (8 innings): Ty Martin had a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Vikings in a wild KVAC A game at South Paris.
Erskine (1-2) scored four runs in the top of the eighth, highlighted by a two-run double from Jory Humphrey, to take a 9-5 lead. However, the Vikings (2-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth thanks to three Erskine errors.
Humphrey finished with two doubles and Shyler Scates pitched the complete game for Erskine.
Maranacook 5, Oak Hill 0: Ryan Vanek struck out seven in six innings and Zach Elwell had three hits to lead the host Black Bears to the KVAC B win.
Elwell had two singles and a double while Ian Palmer contributed with a pair of doubles.
Nate Johnson tripled and Carson Dalheim also doubled for Maranacook (2-1).
Oak Hill, which was held to just one hit, dropped to 0-3.
Bangor 6, Messalonskee 1: Hunter Boyce had two singles and an RBI to lead Bangor in an Eastern A game.
Curtis Worcestra pitched a complete game to earn the victory. He allowed just five hits.
Cam Dexter had two singles and Travis St. Pierre had an RBI to lead the Eagles (1-2).
Boys lacrosse
Gardiner 11, Morse 4: Tyler Jamison scored three goals and three others chipped in with a pair to lead the Tigers in Bath.
Josh Caldwell, Seth Wing and Dalton Sargent each scored two goals for Gardiner (3-0). Justin Lovely and Austin Moore also scored for Gardiner. Moore and Walter Bailey added assists. Cody Hickey had 15 saves to earn the win.
Alexander Paulus scored three goals to lead Morse (1-1).
College baseball
Colby 4-8, Thomas 3-2: Ray Zeek hit a two-run triple to left field in the top of the sixth inning as the Mules won the first game of a doubleheader. The Mules completed the sweep with an 8-2 win in the nightcap.
In the first game, Zeek had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for Colby (15-14). Abhi Chandel pitched five innings of relief, allowing no earned run, one walk and striking out one to pick up his first win of the season.
Ethan Hurley had three hits and an RBI for Thomas (24-15).
In Game 2, the Mules put the game away with five runs in the top of the eight. Cony High School graduate Luke Duncklee and Devlin McConnell each had two-run singles in the inning, while Brandon Nieuw had an RBI single. Tom Cameron had a double and an RBI for Thomas.
Bates 8-10, UM-Farmington 1-0: The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Game 1 and cruised to a doubleheader sweep of the Beavers in Farmington. In the first game, Mike Ciummei had three singles, a double and an RBI for Bates (18-15). Ryan Curit was 4 for 4 with an RBI.
Lawrence High School graduate Matt Woodbury had two singles and an RBI for UMF (8-28).
In the second game, Kevin Davis hit a grand slam as the Bobcats scored nine times in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the win. Brett Wallingford had two singles for UMF.
Also Tuesday: Skowhegan graduate Becca McCarty pitched three innings and won her 13th game of the season as the Husson University softball team defeated Lyndon State College 10-2 in a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal in Bangor. Maranacook graduate Heidi Shaw had an RBI double.
