GARDINER — Sophomore Josh Mashke had two singles and two RBIs and freshman Josh McKelvey pitched a complete game as Gardiner defeated Maine Central Institute 12-5 in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B baseball action Thursday.

The Tigers (2-2) scored six times in the second inning to take control. Dennis Meehan added a double for Gardiner.

MCI falls to 0-4.

Buckfield 11, Richmond 1: Cody White pitched a complete-game two hitter to lead the visiting Bucks to the East-West Conference win.

Austin Dooley and Dustin Denon each doubled for Buckfield (1-0).

Brian Snedeker hit a double for Richmond (0-2). Tyler Harrington took the loss.

Girls lacrosse

Brunswick 13, Gardiner 6: Carolyn Wild and Samantha Smith each scored four goals to lead the visiting Dragons to the win. Dakota Foster added two goals for Brunswick (2-0). Molly Herman made seven saves.

Ally Day scored four times for Gardiner (0-2) while Brooke Davis added two. Paige Pilsbury chipped in with two assists and Julie Krouse had one. Maddie Cutler stopped 11 shots.

Softball

MCI 1, Gardiner 0: Courtney Fowler took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the Huskies won the KVAC B game in Gardiner.

Fowler had four strikeouts and the Huskies (2-2) scored their only run in the sixth inning when Kat Smedberg singled, stole second and scored on a double by Fowler.

Brittany Rollins was the tough luck loser for Gardiner (3-1). She allowed one run on four hits, while striking out nine in a complete-game effort.
