READFIELD — Sarah Boynton hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to help her own cause on the mound as the Maranacook softball team drubbed Waterville 5-1 on Wednesday.

Boynton went the distance, striking out seven and allowing just two hits for the Black Bears (6-2).

Kaitlyn Chick went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Maranacook as well.

“I don’t think we played as well as we are capable of playing,” Maranacook coach Don Beckwith said. “But we played well defensively and got some key hits.”

Jenna Gagnon had a double and later came home on an RBI groundout from Allie Forkey to lead Waterville (4-5).
