NEW SHARON — A local man was in critical condition Monday evening with burns suffered when he poured gasoline on burning trash in an outdoor barrel at his home.
John Gill, 85, of 33 Gloria Road was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment, according to Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety. He was listed in critical condition.
The New Sharon Fire Department was called to Gill’s home about 5 p.m. Investigators determined he was using a barrel to burn trash and poured gasoline on the fire, the public safety department spokeswoman wrote in a news release.
The Fire Marshal’s office was contacted because of the nature of the injury.
Gill lives at the residence with his girlfriend, Moss said.
