The following area Memorial Day events are planned Monday.

BELGRADE

There will be a Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. at the Old Town House.

CLINTON

Clinton Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Lineup will start at 9:30 a.m. at the post office. There will also be a brief ceremony at the monuments at the cemetery.

CORINNA

The Corinna American Legion will host a Memorial Day parade. Post members and auxiliary will meet at Corinna Elementary School at 8 a.m., march to the Village Cemetery for services and return via Route 222 to the bridge on Route 7 to lay a wreath in honor to those lost at sea. The service will conclude at the veterans’ memorial at the Levi Stewart Library.

FAIRFIELD

A Memorial Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. Line up will start at 10 a.m. at the Community Center. Lunch will follow at Legion Hall.

HARTLAND

The Steeves-McCormack American Legion Post will begin its Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. at the tannery annex in Hartland, stop at the cemetery for taps and a firing squad salute and at Warren Square to lay a wreath and raise the flag. Units will reconvene at the Indian Stream Hardware parking lot at 10 a.m., proceed to the cemetery for taps and a firing squad salute and march to the town monument for a final remembrance.

MADISON

A Memorial Day ceremony with guest speaker U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, 2nd-District, is set for 3 p.m. today at VFW Post 7865, Preble Avenue, followed by a meal.

NEWPORT

Local veterans’ organizations, the Nokomis Regional High School Junior ROTC will lead the Memorial Day parade starting at 10 a.m. in Progress Park. The Main Street parade will pause at Veterans Park and the Donald Skidgel Memorial Bridge and end at the Barrows-Skidgel American Legion Post on North Street.

NORRIDGEWOCK

The Norridgewock Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Day parade will start at 9 a.m. at Oosoola Park and end at the bank for a brief ceremony. All veterans and groups are welcome to march in the parade. The Norridgewock Historical Society will have its open house to honor all veterans until noon.

OAKLAND

The Memorial Day parade will leave Messalonskee High School at 9 a.m. and end at the cemetery on Belgrade Avenue. Participants are asked to line up at 8:30 a.m.

The parade is sponsored by Decker Simmons American Legion Post 51.

PITTSFIELD

The Burns W. Knowlton American Legion Post will lead the Pittsfield Memorial Day parade starting at 9 a.m. at the former Corner Cupboard Store on North Main Street. Local Boy and Girl Scouts are invited. Cars will be available for veterans who are unable to march.

The parade will stop at Veterans Park, the Pittsfield Public Library and Village Cemetery on Peltoma Avenue.

The Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge will serve refreshments for participants served at the conclusion of the ceremony.

SIDNEY

Maine National Guard Gen. Bill Libby and Lt. Col. Peter Ogden will present veterans with Maine State Service Medals and awards during a ceremony that includes a short parade, bagpiper and color guard at 9 a.m. at the Town Office.

SKOWHEGAN

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of Madison Avenue and Dyer Street, head south into downtown and end at Veterans Memorial Park on Water Street next to the Skowhegan municipal building. The Rev. Mark Tanner will lead a ceremony at the park honoring veterans. For more information, call 474-3621.

WATERVILLE

The Waterville VFW, Forest J. Pare, Post 1285 is sponsoring the following events:

* First wreath-laying ceremony, 9:30 a.m., Castonguay Square.

* Second wreath-laying ceremony, 9:50 a.m., Two Cent Bridge.

* Parade, 10 a.m., from Head of Falls parking lot to a ceremony at Memorial Park.

The post will serve refreshments to participants in the hall on Water Street after the parade.
