WATERVILLE — Twenty-two second- through sixth-grade adventurers recently experimented with minerals, learned about mining and water contamination, and discussed women in the sciences with Colby College geology professor Valerie Reynolds on Colby’s campus.
The adventurers also explored the differences in types of sand found at Acadia National Park and Popham Beach, and learned about aquifers and how important it is to keep water clean.
The next adventure, Chemical Commotion, will be held on Saturday at Colby College. There is limited space available, so sign up by calling Hardy Girls Healthy Women at 861-8131.
Adventure Girls is an empowerment program for girls to experience traditionally male-dominated fields and hobbies. It is a program of Hardy Girls Healthy Women, a nonprofit in Waterville.
