BINGHAM — Voters Tuesday in Bingham and Moscow rejected the $3.1 million school budget by only four votes, 118-114. Bingham residents voted 73-69 in favor of the budget, while Moscow residents voted 49-41 opposing it.
The total that each town was to have raised in local taxes for the 2012-13 budget was $696,627 for Bingham, with a population of 962 and $933,352 for Moscow, with a population of 512. The local assessment is more for Moscow because of higher state property valuations.
The total in local taxes for the coming year was $324,600 more than the current budget. The next school board meeting is June 19.
