AUGUSTA — Results were not available Tuesday night in the Republican primary race for House District 57.

Candidates were Michael Hein and Andrew Worcester, both of whom live on Green Street in Augusta.

District 57 serves parts of Augusta.

The winner will face off against incumbent Democratic state Rep. Maeghan Maloney in the November election — at least for now. Maloney has signed up to run again, but she may be replaced as a candidate because she is also running for Kennebec County district attorney.

Hein, 42, previously worked as officer manager for the Christian Civic League of Maine before that employment ended in a dispute with the league in 2010. On June 6 he entered a not guilty plea to a charge of attempted theft by deception in district court in Augusta related to his campaign financing efforts.

The state attorney general’s office filed the charge, alleging Hein used his own money to try to qualify for public campaign financing through the Maine Clean Election Act and falsified forms.

Worcester has not returned calls or responded to other efforts to reach him during the campaign.
