William Guerrette III defeated Ryan Wheaton 351-305 in the Republican nomination for House District 79, according to unofficial results on Tuesday.

Guerrette will face Rep. Sharon Treat, D-Hallowell, in November’s general election.

House District 79 includes Farmingdale, Hallowell and West Gardiner.

Wheaton, 34, owns Maine-ly Inks, an e-commerce company, and teaches business at the Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta. He has nearly 20 years of experience in business, sales and financial management. He said job creation and the economy are key issues in this year’s election.

Guerrette, 28, manages Sun Tan City in Augusta. Guerrette said he has worked in “the real economy” and helped run a small family business in Augusta for the last five years. If Maine is to become competitive, he said the state as a whole needs to better understand business owners and their incentives for hiring people.
