Ellen A. Winchenbach is leading Henry B. Simmons 461-290 in the Republican primary race for House District 50, according to updated results.

The results showed three of four precincts reporting.

Simmons, of Nobleboro, and Ellen A. Winchenbach, of Waldoboro, were running to succeed Rep. Dana Dow, R-Waldoboro, who is not seeking re-election.

The winner of the primary will face Democrat Joel A. Pitcher, of Jefferson, in November.

The district includes Bremen, Jefferson, Nobleboro and Waldoboro.

In Jefferson Winchenbach collected 67 votes to Simmons’ 27, while in Nobleboro, the vote was 97 for Simmons and 60 for Winchenbach, giving Winchenbach a narrow lead of 127-124.

Simmons, 47, a former Nobleboro selectman, ran unsuccessfully for the District 50 Republican nomination in 2008 and 2010. He became the Republican candidate in the 2008 general election when the primary winner withdrew in September due to illness, but Simmons then lost to Democrat Wendy Pieh.

Winchenbach, 56, is a cosmetologist and former Waldoboro selectman. She serves on the town and Lincoln County budget committees.
