MADISON — A Skowhegan man was killed Wednesday morning when his motorcycle was struck by a sport utility vehicle on Route 148 at Blackwell Hill Road.

Michael Dyer Jr., 45, was thrown from the bike and died at the scene just after 8:40 a.m., according to Detective Lt. Carl E. Gottardi II of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department. Dyer was not wearing a helmet.

Dyer was traveling west toward Madison on a 1982 Honda motorcycle when it was hit by a 2004 Dodge Durango, which had been traveling east toward U.S. Route 201.

The 17-year-old driver of the Durango has not been identified because he is under 18. He was wearing a seat belt, was alone in the vehicle and was not hurt.

Gottardi said the driver of the Durango was turning left onto Blackwell Hill Road when it crossed in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the Durango on the passenger side. The Durango was damaged, but was not considered a total loss, Gottardi said.

Gottardi said the accident is under investigation. The results will be reviewed by the district attorney’s office, which is routine in fatal accidents.
