Leonil B. Giroux Jr.

AUGUSTA – Leonil B. Giroux Jr., 81, a devoted husband father and grandfather, went to be with his Lord on Sunday June 27, 2021.

He was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Waterville, the son of Leonil Sr. and Kathryn (Marshall) Giroux.

He was a graduate of Waterville High School, class of 1957. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, serving in many areas around the world including the Republic of Vietnam. After a military career of 21 years, he completed his college education at Thomas College of Waterville. He worked for the state of Maine for 20 years in various capacities within the accounting and financial departments.,

Lee married Sheila Hapworth on Sept. 30, 1967 in Winslow.

He was active in volunteer work at Saint John’s church and school, The Knights of Columbus, The Winslow VFW and about any other charitable organization that needed his help.

Lee had a passion for good food, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, two sons and grandchildren.

Lee is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sheila; son, Andrew and wife Tammy and their children Evelyn, Olivia, Sophia and Andrew Jr.; his son, Daniel, his two children Kaela and Ella of Vassalboro.

Lee was predeceased in death by his parents; his brother, Clifton “Sonny” Giroux and wife Winifred Giroux of Fairfield.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Veterans Home on the Cony Road, Augusta, The Togus VA. and the Comfort Care Center at the Maine General Hospital in Augusta.

Visiting hours will be held at Veilleux Funeral Home on Tuesday July 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 14 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Waterville. Committal services will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Waterville. A celebration of life will be held at The Winslow VFW following the committal at St. Francis Cemetery.
