AUGUSTA — Police say an employee working an early shift Friday reported a burglary at the Dairy Queen on Civic Center Drive in Augusta.
Sgt. Chris Blodgett of the Augusta Police Department said the employee found the front door broken and someone had gotten into the cash register at the soft serve ice cream and fast-food restaurant.
“I don’t have any information on the suspect or suspects. We’re still waiting on (video) footage,” Blodgett said. “I don’t know how many suspects.”
Following the break-in, the damaged door was secured with plywood and police tape limited access to the front of the building.
Blodgett said he was not able to confirm money had been stolen. Other than that, he said it appeared nothing else had been taken.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
