
Clarence MacDonald
TOPSHAM – Clarence MacDonald, age 96, a WWII, Korea and Vietnam Army veteran, died peacefully at his home Sunday, July 4, 2021 surrounded by family.
He was born in Skowhegan on August 18, 1924, a son of Neil R. and Clara B. Michaud MacDonald. He was a graduate of Skowhegan HS, class of ’42. After 28 years of service to country, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, he retired from the US Army. Throughout his service he earned several medals including the Purple Heart.
He married Shelia M. Cartwright in Providence, R.I. on May 28, 1955. The couple just celebrated 66 years of marriage.
He was a member of the American Legion, Post 202, for over 30 years. He and his wife were Good Sam members, taking their RV throughout the country, including regular visits to Michigan and Rhode Island.
Mr. MacDonald had a sharp sense of humor, was described as a worry-wart by those close to him, and he was willing to help others.
He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, and was a meticulous gardener.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Frank “Mickey” MacDonald, Cecil “Ray” MacDonald, Robert “Bob” MacDonald, Donald “Don”
MacDonald; four sisters, Mary Plourde, Dora Gagne, Hazel Bealieu, Eva Paddock.
He is survived by his wife Sheila MacDonald of Topsham; a daughter Linda Corson and husband Steve Turner of Topsham, two sons, Neil MacDonald and wife Mary Anne of Bowdoin, Douglas MacDonald and wife Faye of Topsham; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to visit 3 to 6 p.m. Monday July 12, 2021 at the Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m.
Tuesday July 13 at the funeral home. A committal will follow with military honors in Haley Cemetery, Topsham.
