It is with overwhelming gratitude that we type this letter to the newspaper.
Words cannot express the feelings that our family has been through these past weeks, beginning with the day we were told that Jay had lost his life in a foreign land, fighting for peace.
The news articles the papers have printed have been with such patriotism and kindness that you have most definitely provided our family a boost of strength and renewed faith in what it truly means to be an American, and a Mainer.
Thank you for the paper’s honor and tribute to Capt. John “Jay” Brainard.
