AUGUSTA — Work on the expansion of the Augusta Skate Park has gotten underway this week at Williams Park.

The 2,700-square-foot expansion at the park, located at the corner of Bangor and Quimby streets, is made possible by fundraising efforts that collected $144,000. The expansion is being dedicated to skater and Augusta native Chris Thompson, who was killed in an automobile accident in April 2020.

The expansion will add open space and lower obstacles, built in a flat area on the southern side of the existing park. It is being built by Pivot Custom, a Missouri company with extensive experience building skate parks.
