Patty Woods, who owns Patty’s Place gift shop, told police the man was wearing a black ski mask and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at her during the robbery at about 9:30 a.m., according to Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox.
The man fled in a dark blue car, which Woods described as being a dirt-covered compact model heading toward Dixfield on U.S. Route 2, Wilcox said.
Law enforcement agencies across the region are searching for the car and the suspect, who was described by Woods as a slender white male between 5 feet 6 inches and 6 feet tall, Wilcox said.
Woods was not hurt and was shaken up by the robbery. The amount of cash and jewelry taken is yet to be determined, Wilcox said, standing outside the gift shop just off Route 2.
Woods also told police the man was wearing a black jacket and gloves along with denim jeans, Wilcox said.
The gift shop, which is near the border between Franklin and Oxford counties, has quilts and other trinkets displayed in a small open entranceway just off the highway. Snowmobile helmets are also stacked on a table visible to passing motorists.
Wilcox and other investigators remained at the gift shop this morning, and three town police departments from the area and two county sheriff’ s offices had patrols searching along Route 2, Wilcox said.

Police are now searching the area around the shop, Patty’s Place, on U.S. Route 2 for a small, dirt-covered blue car the suspect left in.
