Karen Jean Linscott Caggiano

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved “Mimi” on August 30, 2021 in Springfield, Ga. Karen Jean Linscott Caggiano, 75, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Our hearts are broken.

Karen was born on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 1946, to the late John S. Linscott Jr. and Aileen Byler Linscott. After graduating high school, she married David Wallace. In 1965, she gave birth to their daughter Jennifer Cunningham who became the light of her life. During that time, she received her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Montclair State University and began her career as an educator.

Karen majored in early childhood education and taught in New Jersey and in Maine for a total of 23 years. Karen was instrumental in teaching many children how to read.

Karen and David opened a craft store, D and K Handicrafts in Augusta, when she decided to end her teaching career. When Karen’s first grandchild, who named her “Mimi”, was born in 1984 she knew she wanted to continue her work with children and started a successful daycare. Her daycare career lasted for 25 years and the name “Mimi” was forever engrained. You would often find Karen sitting at the table with her children helping them with their homework. Karen lived her life for her “kids”.

Karen married Peter Caggiano in 1990. They had a daughter together, Leslie Lamon whom they both loved dearly. She was excited to have Peter’s son, Michael come to Maine to live with them. She immediately developed an interest in baseball which was a passion of Michael’s.

Karen spent summers with her family on Flying Pond in Vienna. Eventually, she built her own camp on Flying Pond where she spoiled her grand babies every chance she could. Karen enjoyed knitting, stitching and reading books. Many of her projects were creative and became works of art. Karen was a rock for her family, always willing to help, listen or laugh with the people she loved.

Karen is survived by her husband of 28 years, Peter Caggiano; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Tim Cunningham, daughter, Leslie Lamon, stepson and wife, Michael and Kimmie Caggiano; granddaughter and husband, Jessica and Kabary Gogan, grandson, Kyle Cunningham, step-grandchildren Hayden, Caleb and Brynn Caggiano. To Karen’s delight she soon had great-grandchildren to spoil, Taegin and Kami Gogan and Gabriel and Abel Cunningham; sister, Sharon Nichols, brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Linscott; stepmother, Louise Linscott; cousin, Suzanne Hart; niece, Cristy Nielsen and nephew, Scotty Linscott.

There will be visitation at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. and burial service at the Vienna Village Cemetery, in Vienna, on Thursday Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.
