The Arts Collaborative is scheduled to hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at 18 Main St. in Waterville.
This event is open to the Colby community and the general public.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can meet the teaching artists of 18 Main St. as they demonstrate the free workshops that will be offered to the community. Arts education opportunities include screen printing, music-making, movement, creative aging, and making art from upcycled materials.
Guests will have an opportunity to experience Sam Nester’s “Arcadia,” designed specifically for Colby College. Arcadia is an interactive sound and light installation that uses the biorhythms of native Maine plants to create music and corresponding light cues.
Guests from 4 to 6 p.m. can meet the Lunder Institute resident fellows — Adriane Herman, Veronica Perez, Julia Arredondo and E. Saffronia Downing — and tour their studios, exploring the projects they are working on during their time in residence. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., student groups and special guests New Moon Ensemble will perform.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
