My husband and I were fortunate to witness an act of kindness last Sunday. The weather that day was cold and dreary. There was a soft knock on our door.  I looked out to find three children on my doorstep. Their young friend had recently been diagnosed with bone cancer and they were trying to help him by raising funds with a bottle drive. These children were not in a warm car going from house to house, but using a red wagon to carry their donations.

My husband thought he was watching a Norman Rockwell moment directly from the Saturday Evening Post. They were inspiring.

Two days later we discovered a thank-you note in our door from the children. They had written to let us know how much they had raised, told a bit about their friend and thanked us again for helping them.

Along with the note they left a warm memory that there is still empathy and kind acts performed by people of all ages.

We would like others to know how some young people are learning empathy for others.
