A power outage Wednesday that affected more than 1,200 Central Maine Power Co. customers was caused by a falling tree that broke and downed two utility poles on Lakeview Drive in China, a CMP spokesperson said.
About 1,250 customers in China and another 14 in Albion lost power, according to the spokesperson, Catharine Hartnett.
As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, power had been restored to about 570 customers and the remainder were expected to have power back by the end of the day, Hartnett said by email.
CMP line workers removed the two broken poles, replaced them and restored the power lines.
“We will typically make automated calls to impacted customers on circuits experiencing outages to let them know why the power went out,” Hartnett said.
She said the company does not know what caused the tree to fall.
“It is outside of our regular trimming zone – meaning it would not be a tree we would trim in our annual trimming plan as it is too far away from the wires,” Hartnett said.
