The Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center plans to host its 11th annual One in Five 5K hybrid race at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 24, at FirstPark in Oakland.
The One in Five 5K race is one of the center’s largest fundraisers and outreach events, according to a news release from the center.
Participants can join either virtually through April 30 or in person on April 24 at FirstPark.
Proceeds from this event benefit the organization’s free 24-hour, confidential support services to victims and families of sexual assault.
“The one in five people in Maine who are victims of sexual violence and abuse, know that we see them, we support them and we care,” said Executive Director Donna Strickler. “As a community, we can come together to make a difference in the lives of those affected by sexual violence. One in five of the racing bibs will be teal, the color of Sexual Assault Awareness; this is a very powerful visual and message of awareness.”
Registration costs $15 for those 17 and younger, and $30 for those 18 and older.
