Sheryl Elizabeth “Stacey” Arbour

READFIELD – Sheryl Elizabeth “Stacey” Arbour, 71, died on April 5, 2022, at 12:15 a.m., after a lengthy and debilitating battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Sheryl was able to spend the entire ordeal time at home, giving husband, Bob, the precious gift of being with her on her last breath.

She was born in South Parsonsfield, on April 25, 1950, to Philip and Joyce (Peterson) Morrill. Upon her mother’s remarriage in 1960, Sheryl was adopted by her beloved stepfather, H. Manuel Stacey. As the third of six children, she grew up in Parsonsfield, and graduated from Sacopee Valley High School in 1968. She completed Plus-Gray’s Business College program in Portland, May 1969.

Sheryl married the love of her life, Robert J. Arbour, in May of 1970. They resided in Augusta, for 30 years, where they raised three children. In 2001 they relocated to Readfield.

Her family and her home were the center of her world. She kept an immaculate house, sewed, and made the best whoopie pies around. Her homemade baked beans weren’t so bad either. Family vacations often involved camping, especially with lifelong friends, the Geneseos (Paul and Marlene) and Cunninghams (Rick and Donna) families. She enjoyed reading, had a fondness for hummingbirds and the color purple, was a fan of Elvis, and had an amazingly green thumb when it came to her houseplants. Whenever possible, Sheryl traveled to her hometown to visit with her siblings, whom she adored. Gathering with them to reconnect and reminisce gave her great joy.

In 1974 Sheryl began her distinguished career with Kennebec Savings Bank. She loved her job, took pride in her work, and made many friends over the years. Due to health complications, she retired in 2011.

Sheryl is survived by her husband, Bob Arbour, of Readfield; her children Tammy Ellis and her husband Bob, of Vassalboro, Nathan Arbour and his wife Angela, of Holden, Mass., and Elaine Arbour and her husband Kurt, of Sunapee, N.H.; her grandchildren Thaddeus Clark and his wife Savannah, of Vassalboro, Grant Arbour and Michelle Arbour, of Holden, Mass.; her siblings Wesley Stacey and his wife Suzann of Parsonsfield, Lenora Fox and her husband David, of Parsonsfield, Anna Stupelis, of Hiram, Warren Stacey and his wife Eileen, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ramona Riley and her husband David, of Tucson, Ariz.; her brother-in-law, Roland Arbour and his wife Jean, of Sidney; her mother-in-law, Rita Glidden, of Vassalboro; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was a kind and generous soul, and we are all better for having had her in our lives.

The family would like to thank the following for support and care of Sheryl: Maine General Hospice for professional care of Sheryl in her last 3/4 months at home; Penny Rosso-Snider for Home Care during those months; Shannon Beauchesne for prior Home Care for 16/17 months; as well as the staff at the Roberts Funeral Home for their compassion and care shown to Sheryl and Bob.

A special thank you from Bob to Jim Kidwell of Augusta, for his constant checking in and company for Bob, keeping him grounded. A true ‘Spiritual’ Brother! Others who cared also gave their support, but Jim excelled in friendship and caring.

Mon Ami…

The Arbour Family.

At the request of Bob and Sheryl, there’ll be no visiting or funeral at this time.

A celebration of Sheryl’s beautiful life will be planned for the coming summer. Burial will take place (date and time to be determined) at Riverside Cemetery in Porter, where she’ll join her mom and dad. Her hometown area as her final resting place is only appropriate.

Arrangements are in the care of the Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop where memories, condolences and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of our website at http://www.khrfuneralhomes.com.
