Barbara Marie Smith
FARMINGDALE – Barbara Marie Smith passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022 at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta.
She was one of nine children and was the daughter of Archie Edward Collins and Mildred Viola (Jordan) Collins in Iceboro.
Barbara was born on June 8, 1933 in Iceboro. She lived in Gardiner until 1956 and then moved into their home in Farmingdale that was built by her husband, Loring. She married Loring Frank “Bud” Smith on Dec. 2, 1950 and they were married for 70 years.
She worked at Gardiner Shoe and Health-Tex in Farmingdale for a short time each. Then went to work at Sheldon Street School in Farmingdale where she retired after 32 years. In her early years, Barbara was a pack leader for Boy Scouts. She enjoyed going to bingo with her sister Audrey, and going to craft fairs where she sold things that she made in her later years. Barbara attended Gardiner High School where she received her GED in 1982. She was a member of the Farmingdale Historical Society and participated in the Farmingdale Fire Women’s Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and her brothers and sisters Archie Collins Jr., Arthur Collins, Audrey Emerson Sweet, Arlene McFadden, Juanita Drummond Soler, Patricia Mason, Edward Collins, and Shirley Philbrick.
She is survived by her five children, Joyce (Roger) Farren, Bob Smith and his companion Mary Lou Miller, Steve (Amy) Smith, Carol Rogers and Larry (Linda) Smith; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Maine Avenue Cemetery in Farmingdale on Thursday, May 5 at 1 pm.
