Dorothy (Smith) Shaw Gower

PALMYRA & DEXTER – Dorothy Gower, 83, died May 6, 2022, at her residence. She was born Sept. 6, 1938, in Dixmont, a daughter of Nealand and Grace (Tasker) Smith. She attended Dixmont schools and graduated from Newport High School, class of 1957. She worked in area nursing homes as a Certified Nurses’ Aide and at the time of retirement worked at the Charlotte White Center in Dover-Foxcroft. She enjoyed camping, trips to the ocean and her flower gardens. She also made many quilts she gave to family members, but her greatest joy was gathering with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.She is survived by her husband, Alan Gower, who was her best friend and loving companion; two sons Charles Shaw, III and wife Tawni, Herbert Shaw and wife Elsie “Tinker”, all of Detroit; two daughters, Lillian Philbrick and husband Stephen of Detroit, and Marcia Cox and husband Michael of Palmyra; a sister, Margaret Robinson of Newburgh; six grandchildren, Charles Shaw IV and wife Mindy, Jessica Shaw-Winzler and husband Chris, Crystal Ballard and husband Shawn Doll, Elizabeth Gallagher and husband Dustin, Olivia Shaw-Lust and husband Nick and Abigail Shaw; eight great-grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; a nephew Gary and wife Bonnie Cole of Dixmont; and a niece, Nancy Klein of Etna. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Danielle Shaw. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport.
