Albert E. Cushing

AUGUSTA – Albert E. Cushing, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2022, in the Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation following a lengthy illness.

Born on Dec. 26, 1934, in Melrose, Mass., Albert is the son of the late Ronald Cushing, Sr., and Edith L. (Miller) Cushing. Having spent his early years in the greater Boston area, he eventually moved to Maine, residing with his brother in Gardiner, and eventually settling in Augusta. He was the loving husband of the late Wanda (Whittier) Cushing with whom he shared 28 years of marriage.

Albert was a very dedicated hard worker, having worked in the kitchen at the former Augusta General Hospital for many years before retiring. He was active in several local organizations, including the Masons, the Vienna Grange, the Mount Vernon Baptist Church, and the Penney Memorial Baptist Church in Augusta, and also was a loyal longtime Red Sox fan.

Albert is survived by his son, Scott Cushing of Augusta; son, Steven Cushing and his children Nevaeh, Jaylah, Jacobi, and Malachi Cushing of Augusta; son, Ellery Barrett and his wife Tanya of Litchfield, and their son, Jonathan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Albert is also predeceased by his brothers Ronald and Edwin Cushing; and granddaughter, Jadika Cushing.

The family would additionally like to express deep gratitude and thanks to the staff at the Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation for the exceptional level of care and compassion they provided to Albert during his stay there.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Grove Cemetery in Augusta on Friday May 20 at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
