Jean (Templeton) Ring

RHINEBECK, N.Y. – Jean (Templeton) Ring, 83, died on July 26, 2022 after a long illness.

Born in Boston, Mass. she spent most of her life in Maine after her father and mother, Walter and Marjorie Templeton, relocated to a chicken farm north of Bangor. The family moved with the poultry industry, finding their way eventually to Windsor where Jean attended high school and met Roger Ring, her one and only true love. Although he died over 45 years ago, she continued to carry a torch for him and is dancing to “Love Me Tender” with him now.

Jean and Roger resided in Winslow where they raised their children. Her one desire was to be a housewife. However, after Roger’s death, she relocated to be nearer to her sisters in Kittery where she worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Portsmouth, N.H. before eventually retiring and relocating back to central Maine. She would volunteer her services by baking for her church, firefighters and funeral receptions.

Although quiet and reserved most of the time, she could be drawn out by her twin and dear friend, Joan.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends including her children, Ann Ring, Walter Ring and his wife Clare, Cindy Papken and her husband Rob, and Alan Ring his wife Tammy; her grandchildren Megan Ring, Renee Papken, Hannah Ring and her husband Alan, and Sebastian Ring; and her sweet great-granddaughter, Rowan Ring; sisters Joan Theriault and Mary Delcourt and brother, Walter D. Templeton, Jr. and his wife Pauline, brother-in-law, Charles Ring and his wife Lenore, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ring; several nieces, nephews and their families; cousins; and extended family; most especially, her Bruins texting buddies.

Her great friends include high school buddy, Doris Veilleux and her husband Pat, Mickey Poulliot, Hartley “Buzz” Fernald, Carole and Jim Housley and the many neighbors, church and work friends she met over the years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roger E. Ring; her parents, Walter D. Templeton, Sr. and Marjorie (Blake) Templeton; granddaughter, Roxanne Papken; nieces Jackie (Ring) Woodworth and Rhonda Ring; brothers-in-law Herbert Ring, Melvin Delcourt, William Theriault, sisters-in-law Ethel (Ring) Turcotte, Rose (Ring) Parlin and Hazel (Ring) Light who was also a close friend; dear friends Sylvia Poulliot and Pat Fernald; and many others whose lives connected with hers.

She had special relationships with her caregivers as well. Thanks to those who aided her in her infirmity at the Bella Point in Bridgton and at the Meadows at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck, N.Y. All who met her said she touched them in a special way.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 4 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 26 Monument St., Winslow. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery, Cemetery Street, Vassalboro.
