DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts invites artists to submit work for a juried show of all abstract art; Celeste Henriquez will be the juror.

A painter and illustrator, Henriquez creates abstract narrative paintings from personal experience and memory. Her gestural paintings use drawing and oil to tell internal and external stories of relationships and environments, according to a news release from the gallery.

Henriquez received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Philadelphia College of Art in Illustration. After graduating from the college she worked nationally as a freelance illustrator in advertising, editorial and children’s books. Exhibitions have included Portland Museum of Art, Maine Art Gallery, George Marshall Store Gallery, Stonewall Gallery, River Arts Gallery, Frank Brockman Gallery, Harlow Gallery, and Zero Station. She lives and works in Portland, and is a member of SEVEN Artists Collective. To learn more visit,  celestejunehenriquez.com.

This show is open to all media including but not limited to painting, sculpture, fiber, photography and mixed media. Artists may enter two pieces with a size limit of 24 inches (in any direction) including frame. Or artists may enter one larger piece with a size limit of 48 inches including frame.

Entries must be delivered in person before 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, to the gallery at 36 Elm St.

Forms are available in the gallery or can be downloaded from the website riverartsme.org. For members the entry fee is $15 and for nonmembers it is $30.

“Abstract” will run from Sept. 6 through Oct. 15. The public will be invited to an opening reception set for 2-4 p.m. Sept. 10.

The regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
