Leonel F. “Frank” Veilleux

AUGUSTA – Leonel F. “Frank” Veilleux, 79, of Winslow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2022 following a brave battle with cancer.

Lee was born in Waterville to Josephine and John Veilleux. He grew up in Waterville, and was a Private in the Army. Lee married his high school sweetheart, Bernley Fitch and they were married for 52 years.

Lee was the proprietor of Veilleux’s Market on Sherwin Street in the ’70s. The family lived in North Texas from 1979 until 1987, when Lee and Bernley moved back to Waterville to be closer to extended family. Lee held the post of Commander at the American Legion in the early 2000s. Lee and Bernley retired to Alamo, Texas, in 2006 and were both active within the community. Lee decided to return to central Maine in 2017 after Bernley’s sudden passing.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Bernley Veilleux who passed away unexpectedly in 2015.

Lee is survived by his children Kathy Veilleux-Chassie and Barry Chassie, of Frisco, Texas and Peter Veilleux, of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; his four siblings, Jeanette (Veilleux) Bourgoin of Waterville, Roland Veilleux of Skowhegan, Lucien and Glennis Veilleux of Waterville, and Vernette (Veilleux) and Roland Dechaine of Pittsfield. In addition to his children and siblings, Lee leaves behind his four grandchildren, Bria, Jenna, Evan, and Marisa Chassie of Frisco, Texas; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 61 Grove St. in Waterville. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Veilleux and Redington Funeral Home, http://www.VeilleuxFuneralHome.com.
