Stanley Amasa Shores
WINSLOW – Stanley Amasa Shores, 90, of Winslow passed away on Aug. 22, 2022, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.
He was born in Benton on May 3, 1932, the son of James and Florence (Germon) Shores. Stanley attended Benton Grammar Schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1950, in a class of 50 students.
He was employed by Lipman Hatchery for 28 years until their closing, then he built a building and operated his bakery for 16 years, Pride of Maine.
In 1992, he married Esther (Varney) Knotts and they spent 20 winters in Spring Hill, Fla. They traveled to England, Scotland twice, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and other places.
Stanley was a 70-year member of the Benton Grange, Benton Falls Church, and Ballroom Dancing Society for 20 years.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Leland, James, Wilson, Lendel, and Doug, and his sisters Irene Murch, and Mabel Colson.
Stanley will be sadly missed by his wife, Esther; his son, John (Sue), his daughters Janice (Harold) Bickford, and Cynthia (Mark) Isbell, his stepson, William (Teresa) Knotts; his grandchildren Tina (Andrew) Chartrand, Derek (Amanda) Higgins, Lance (Nicole) Shores, Stacy Higgins, and Peter (Jessica) Lee, his step-granddaughter, Danielle Knotts; five great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Brown Cemetery in Benton.
